The Open Door began as a newsletter by Monsignor Chester Michael, affectionately known as Father Chet, in the 1960s. Weekly, and then monthly, he offered thoughts and commentary on how we each might grow into holiness.
In the late 1980s, he founded the ecumenical Spiritual Direction Institute. His mission was to train more people in assisting others to live closer to God and to become who God intends us to be.
Today, The Open Door offers classes and retreats and spiritual directors accompany others on their journeys. We continue to support the work and wisdom of Father Chet throughout Virginia and beyond.
