The Open Door lost a great friend on July 19, 2023. For many years Roger Mahloch shepherded the business side of Fr. Chet’s publications and supported him in many ways.

This was a great service rendered in love for Father, his work, and his ideas.
Roger was so taken with what he learned in SDI that this became a large part of the material in a book that he self-published about his life: A Dialogue with My Soul: The Creation of an Ethical Will. He wrote the book for his family and friends with the hope of preserving the impact of Father’s work on one man’s life.
Roger is survived by his wife, Monica, and their family. We invite you to share your memories and condolences here.
I’m sorry to hear of Rogers passing, think of him and Monica often. He was such a gift to Fr Michael – always! He gave me a copy of his book shortly after it was printed and I’m remembering it today as I read your message – I actually read that book out loud to Leonard as we drove cross country from Denver to Virginia (from our grandaughter Hannah’s college graduation). Believe it or not I know exactly where that book is in the cluttered bookshelves of my abode!
Leonard too loved it – and he also loved Rogers ‘license plate’ wall! (From all his cars in all the different states he lived in over the years)
Blessings all around, especially now for Monica.

Roger was the energizer bunny. If there was a treatment for his cancer that he hadn’t tried, he would do it “in case it helped others too!” According to his daughter, he was diagnosed almost 30 years ago with a three year survival. Roger beat those odds for sure. Fr Chet relied heavily on both Roger and Monica for the Open Door in all kinds of capacities. Personally, he has been like a second father to me for years.
Roger Mahloch’s sharing of his intensive journal dialogue – with his father – inspired me to ask Father Chet about initiating the SDI in Richmond to insure its continuation beyond Father’s lifetime.
Roger and Monica remain forever in my heart. May all the angels in heaven gather round Roger and may he be warmly greeted by our beloved mentor.
Thanks to God for Fr Chet and Roger and all others spreading the life giving word!
May the arms of Jesus welcome him home. My deepest sympathy to his family my prayers are with them
I am so sorry to hear about Roger’s passing, and at the same time, happy that he is headed toward his celestial reward with Our Father, Our Lord, Our Holy Spirit who guides us all, his found-again family and friends, and our dear, dear, Fr. Chet…. We may see Roger checking us all in as we enter into the Grand Celestial SDI Reunion…. Roger, Monica, Juanita, and I did SDI together 28 years ago, Roger and I were in a Cursillo reunion group together for several years, and he and Monica were fixtures in the SDI graduate-organized Day Away Retreats twice yearly facilitated by Bev and Al, satisfying one of Fr. Chet’s suggestions that we try to do each month on our own…. Roger was, and is in his new celestial form, a very good man. Someone whose lived life is an example for all who knew him, and for all he has and will touch through his book detailing his own spiritual journey…. Roger, please intercede for us all…
My Heart aches for you, Monica . It has always been two Names uttered in one breath , rightfully proud of each other.. And Beatrice , Nebraska means something to me. My Husband, one of ten, a Nebraska boy, loved the Prairie, the Sand Hills and the State as a Whole. But how blessed we , in the East, have been that you left there. I can’t imagine otherwise ! My love and prayers are with you as we continue on the Journey. Ellen Mohr Ps Seems. that Father Chet is close by !
My heart & prayers are with you during this time of loss. I’m lifting you and your family in prayer right now. And God bless Roger and all the work he’s done to preserve what he knew to be something that will glorify God for years to come with Fr. Chet’s valuable lessons. I can see Roger hanging out with Fr. Chet at this very moment. Blessings to you!!!!
I am holding close the memory of Roger and feeling such gratitude for his life, and his long and beautiful marriage with Monica. Roger’s memory is a blessing – may his witness of love, faithfulness, service, and generosity inspire all of us who knew him. And may Monica and all who grieve be wrapped in caring prayers and know God’s compassionate presence.
We enjoyed visiting Roger and Monica in their home. We will miss him.
Dear Monica we know how much you must miss him. He was a remarkable person.
Love,
Phil and Josie Henning.
